Rabat  – The US and Morocco announced today the successful conclusion of their second plenary meeting of the Global Forum to Prevent Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism.

A joint statement from the US Department of State and the Moroccan Foreign Affairs Ministry stressed that the forum reflectsjoint efforts from the two countries to help protect citizens from potential attacks and safeguard economic stability fromthe disruptive impact of radiological and nuclear incidents.

The forum, which took place in Rabat from February 3-5,  urged all participating countries to share resources to prevent malicious actors from exploiting radiological and nuclear materials to threaten the international community’s economic stability and security.

Over the three-day event, experts from across the world participated in discussions and exchanges focused on boosting international cooperation to prevent, detect, and respond to the threat of radiological and nuclear terrorism.

One of the highlights of the meeting was a counter-radiological and nuclear terrorism demonstration coordinated by Morocco’s Interior Ministry.

The demonstration simulated a multi-agency response to a radiological incident.

During the event, participants also tested crisis decision making and practiced integrency coordination,

The joint statement concluded by announcing that Korea will host the third plenary meeting in 2027.

This commitment reflects the growing international momentum to address R7N terrorism and exemplifies how the forum generates shared responsibility among its members.

Last year,  Morocco obtained the highest level of assurance from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding its compliance with nuclear safeguards.

The Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) announced the news, noting that this is the first time that the country has achieved this milestone.

The designation confirms that all nuclear material present in Morocco is exclusively used for peaceful purposes.
