Rabat – Morocco and the Union of the Comoros signed a landmark agreement today in Addis Ababa, allowing holders of diplomatic and service passports to travel between the two countries without a visa.
The agreement was signed by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and Comoros’ Foreign Minister, Mbae Mohamed, during the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council.
Under the agreement, citizens of either country with a diplomatic or service passport valid for at least six months may enter, stay, leave, and transit through the other country without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period from their first entry.
The deal also covers members of diplomatic missions and consular offices accredited to the other country, along with their immediate family members.Â
They can travel freely throughout the duration of their official accreditation.
Morocco participates in the Executive Council session with a delegation led by Minister Bourita.Â
The meeting sets the stage for the 39th Summit of African Heads of State and Government, scheduled for February 14-15.
The agreement builds on ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations between Morocco and Comoros. Morocco’s Parliament reinforced institutional ties with the Comorian legislature in November 2025.Â
Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of Morocco’s House of Councillors, signed a memorandum of understanding with Abdou Moustadroine, President of the Assembly of the Union of the Comoros.
These memorandums seek to strengthen parliamentary dialogue, promote legislative and technical cooperation, and formalize exchanges of expertise and best practices.Â
They provide a framework for joint initiatives, including training programs, workshops, seminars, official visits, and administrative exchanges for both parliamentarians and staff.Â
Together, these steps show Morocco’s commitment to reinforcing its diplomatic and institutional partnership with Comoros.
