Rabat – The Ministry of Education had announced scheduling more distance learning sessions for students in flood-affected areas.
The measure is designed to ensure the continuity of education, the ministry explained, citing the urgency of protecting the right to schooling for all students affected by recent waves of devastatingly adverse weather.
“The ministry is scheduling distance learning lessons for [affected] students. The timetable will be announced later and will apply to both schools participating in the ‘leadership schools’ program and other educational institutions,” the ministry said.
It emphasized that the decision follows its previous releases dated February 3-7. In those previous announcements, the ministry notably informed all parents and guardians of students in schools affected by the weather disturbances of the distance learning measure amid school closures and the temporary relocation of families and school-age children to other areas or cities
The teachers who received training in distance learning and integrating virtual classrooms will deliver the classes through the e-Qissmi program, the ministry said, noting that the timetable would be updated daily and published on its official website.
The website of the Directorate of Pedagogical and digital resources taalimtice.ma will also publish updated schedules, it added.
The ministry concluded its statement by calling on partners and guardians to give the initiative the necessary attention.
It also encouraged them to support children to ensure students fully benefit from the classes.
Recent floods killed four in Tetouan, local authorities have reported, noting that one person is still missing. The victims died after a sudden flood submerged and overwhelmed the vehicle.
Moroccan authorities have evacuated over 150,000 people from flood-affected areas, relocating people to safer regions and nearby cities in hosting shelters.
The Ministry of Education has been urging schools where students were relocated to ensure the continuity of their schooling.
