Canada Muslims Will Start Fasting Ramadan 2026 on February 18

Rabat – Muslims in Canada will begin fasting for Ramadan 2026 on Wednesday, February 18, according to ISNA Canada, which confirmed the date.

The center stated that the first Taraweeh prayers will take place on the evening preceding the start of fasting. 

Taraweeh prayers, performed after the Isha prayer each night during Ramadan, mark the spiritual opening of the holy month and draw large congregations to mosques across the country.

Canada is home to a significant Muslim population. For many, Ramadan represents a period of worship, reflection, and solidarity within the community.

During the month, Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset, refraining from food and drink. The period also places strong emphasis on prayer, charity, and family gatherings, with mosques hosting evening prayers and communal meals to break the fast.

In contrast, other countries may announce a different start date based on their own moon sighting procedures. 

Morocco, for instance, relies on domestic observations to determine the beginning of Ramadan and is expected to make its announcement separately.

As preparations move forward across Canada, Muslim communities across the country now await the arrival of a month regarded as one of the most sacred periods in the Islamic calendar.
