Rabat – Four police officers have died and 26 others were injured after a bus carrying members of Morocco’s mobile police unit crashed near the city of Sidi Ifni on Saturday morning, according to the General Directorate of National Security.
DGSN said in a statement that the bus was transporting 44 officers from the mobile unit responsible for maintaining public order. They were traveling from Sidi Ifni to Agadir on an official mission to help manage and secure a football competition.
Based on initial information, the crash happened about 24 kilometers from Sidi Ifni. Authorities described it as a single-vehicle accident. The incident resulted in four deaths, in what officials called a preliminary toll. 26 officers were injured, including two who are in critical condition.
DGSN said the Director General of National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, ordered the Police Prefecture of Agadir, along with the police’s medical and social services, to closely monitor the condition of the injured officers at the hospital and ensure they receive all necessary medical care.
The Director General also instructed officials to offer condolences and provide full support and assistance to the families of the officers who died in what the statement described as a tragic accident.
In addition, the Directorate of Human Resources has been tasked with taking all necessary administrative measures in favor of the victims, in accordance with the special status governing employees of the General Directorate of National Security.
