Rabat – The National Council of Adouls in Morocco has announced a national strike from March 2 to March 10, halting all professional services in protest against Bill 16.22, a law regulating their profession.Â
According to the council, the legislation was adopted without taking into account the observations and demands of adouls.Â
In a statement released on Monday, the council described the strike as a strong protest against a law that fails to respect the profession’s input.
The council also noted the success of a previous strike on February 18 and 19, which saw wide participation across the country, signaling widespread disapproval of the current bill.
Adouls noted their refusal to accept Bill 16.22 without the integration of amendments proposed by the council or parliamentary groups from the majority and opposition.Â
The council called on the head of government to engage in a serious and responsible dialogue to create a law that meets professional expectations and ensures the healthy development of the adoul profession.Â
Regional councils have been asked to hold press briefings to explain the reasons behind the strike, while the national body stressed its determination to maintain the protest until its demands receive a satisfactory response.
The strike could disrupt several legal and administrative procedures, including document authentication for real estate transactions, marriages, and certain financial operations.Â
Adouls in Morocco are legal officials who prepare and certify official documents according to Islamic law.Â
Their work covers marriage contracts, divorce papers, inheritance and property records, as well as other civil and family agreements.
