Rabat – Moroccan police arrested a 63-year-old Indonesian national in Marrakech on Tuesday after authorities confirmed that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by judicial authorities in Indonesia.
The arrest involved close coordination between officers from the National Brigade of Judicial Police and police services under the Marrakech security prefecture, according to a security source.
Authorities located the suspect in Marrakech after checks carried out through the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database showed that he was wanted under an international red notice issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Jakarta.
Indonesian authorities suspect the man of involvement in financial corruption and large-scale manipulation within the country’s capital markets.
Following his arrest, the man was placed under extradition procedures in line with instructions from the competent public prosecutor.
Morocco’s Interpol office in Rabat, which operates under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), notified its counterpart in Indonesia about the arrest as part of the extradition process.
The operation is part of Morocco’s continued cooperation with international security mechanisms in efforts to locate and detain individuals wanted at the international level in cases related to cross-border crime.
