Rabat – Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry is urging Iran to issue an apology after a Thai vessel sustained heavy damages due to an Iranian projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday.
Earlier today, Thailand said it is seeking clarity from the Iranian envoy over the incident.
Iran has taken responsibility for the attack, stating that the ship was fired upon by Iranian fighters.
The attack is part of Tehran’s vow to target any ship trying to pass the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for gas exports.
According to converging expert estimates, 20% of the globe’s daily oil consumption passes through Hormuz.
Yet the growing tension is creating significant, unprecedented security challenges in the narrow corridor, disrupting global oil market supply.
This rapidly escalating war is “creating the largest supply disruption” in the history of the global oil market, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a recent market report, adding that crude production now decreases by at least eight million barrels per day.
Critics have long criticized the US-Israeli attacks on Iran, expressing concerns over preparedness for the war.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the US navy is not yet ready to escort oil tankers through the Hormuz strait.
Instead, he suggested, the focus is now on operations aimed at considerably degrading Iran’s military capabilities.
The Israeli-US vs Iran war has been ongoing for two weeks now, with Tel Aviv announcing today that it targeted a site it claims is important to Tenhran’s plans to develop a nuclear weapon.
Iran meanwhile condemned the European Union in a statement today, accusing the European bloc of enabling the US-Israeli attacks on the country.
Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry, said Europe is complicit in the ongoing war on Iran. The bloc’s “indifference and acquiescence in the face of US and Israeli aggression, brutalities and atrocities amounts to nothing less than complicity,” he said.
In the meantime, Lebanon is mourning the ongoing Israeli attacks on its territory, with local authorities reporting that the death toll since March 2, amounting to 687 people.
The Iranian military also said they targeted US military bases in the Middle East with drones.
Since February 28, Iranian attacks have killed at least 13 people in Israel and injured 2,000.
The death toll has been far heavier in Iran, and Iranian authorities have accused the US and Israel of deliberately striking civilian infrastructure, striking hospitals.
