Rabat – Morocco’s weather authority has issued an orange-level alert as unstable conditions are expected to affect several provinces across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), thunderstorms, snowfall, and strong winds will impact multiple regions over the two-day period.

Heavy thundery showers, with rainfall estimated between 30 and 40 mm, are forecast on Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m. in the provinces of Assa-Zag and Es-Semara.

The same weather system is set to extend to Al Haouz, Tinghir, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Errachidia, Taroudant, and Tata from late Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, with a risk of hail in some areas.

Snowfall is also expected in high-altitude areas. The meteorological service reports accumulations of 10 to 20 cm above 2,000 meters between Tuesday midday and Wednesday morning.

Provinces likely to see snowfall include Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, and Midelt.

Strong wind gusts ranging between 75 and 85 km/h will affect several regions. On Tuesday afternoon, Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua, and Taroudant are expected to experience the most intense winds.

Similar conditions are forecast on Wednesday from midday to evening in Essaouira, Chichaoua, and Al Haouz.

The alert comes as part of ongoing efforts to inform residents of rapidly changing weather conditions.

Authorities call on citizens to remain cautious, particularly in mountainous and exposed areas where travel conditions may deteriorate quickly.
