Fez — South Africa will officially celebrate Eid Al Fitr 2026 on Saturday, March 21.

Since no moon was spotted this evening, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has ruled that Ramadan 1447 will last a full 30 days, ending on Friday, March 20. This means Eid Al Fitr in South Africa will be Saturday, March 21.

Ramadan in South Africa began on February 19, placing it among countries that will observe Eid on March 21 this year.

Eid Al-Fitr marks the conclusion of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. Muslims begin the day by attending congregational Eid prayers in mosques and open spaces.

After the prayers, families gather for meals and celebrations, marking the first daytime eating after a month of fasting. Traditional dishes and sweets are often prepared for the occasion.

Charitable giving remains an essential part of the holiday, with Zakat Al Fitr distributed to ensure that all members of the community can take part in the celebrations.

Children are central to the festivities, often receiving gifts and wearing new outfits as part of the tradition.

With the crescent officially confirmed, Muslim communities across South Africa are preparing to welcome Eid in a spirit of unity, gratitude, and celebration.
