Rabat – The National Center for University and School Works (Cnous) has revealed a significant data breach affecting its appointment platform for social and housing services.
The website mesrdv.etudiant.gouv.fr, used by students to book appointments with university service centers (Crous), exposed sensitive information from the past decade.
Cnous reported that 774,000 individuals are affected. Among them, 139,000 had uploaded documents stolen, while 635,000 were impacted by a limited leak, including names, email addresses, and details of scheduled appointments.
In response, Cnous secured all compromised accounts and opened a comprehensive investigation to determine the source of the breach and prevent similar events.
A report has been filed with the French data protection authority (CNIL), and a formal complaint is underway. The institution emphasized that digital security remains a top priority.
The affected platform has been temporarily closed to reinforce security measures.
Cnous confirmed that each person impacted will receive direct notification about the breach and guidance on protective steps.
This incident is not isolated. On March 15, personal information, including postal addresses, of around 243,000 National Education employees were compromised.
Separately, administrative data of 1.5 million individuals from the Secretariat General of Catholic Education (SGEC) became public following a cyberattack.
Experts note that educational institutions remain vulnerable because they store large volumes of personal and administrative information, making them attractive targets for hackers.
