Rabat – After the postponement of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which was scheduled to take place on March 17 to April 7, Morocco has reaffirmed its readiness to host the competition.

According to BBC Sport Africa, Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, emphasized that Morocco is fully prepared to host this continental tournament. “The country was, and is, ready to host –  any time, and we will be very proud and very happy to host it, be it this month or within three months,” he said.

Mezzour indicated that Morocco’s busy international and domestic football calendar may have contributed to the postponement. The lack of clarity has been further heightened by a brief statement from Confederation of African Football citing “unforeseen circumstances” and the involvement of partners, FIFA, and other stakeholders.

The delay has sparked rumors and speculation, following recent controversies in African competitions. Includes the overturning event on the Afcon 2025, which ended after Senegal walked off the pitch in protest over refereeing decisions made during added time in the finals.

Morocco has become a central hub for African football in recent years. The country has hosted multiple major events, including the 2022 and 2024 Women’s Champions League, the 2023 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, last year’s Under-17 Afcon, as well as futsal Afcon tournaments and the most recent senior men’s Afcon 2025.

With Morocco’s growing status as a major sporting nation in Africa, and with upcoming global events such as the 2030 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Portugal and Spain, the country has consolidated its reputation as a capable and reliable host of prestigious global tournaments.
