Rabat – The President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, received a delegation from the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) on Tuesday evening, led by its Chair, Ambassador Omar Hilale, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York.
The meeting was part of an official UN visit to the republic from March 30 to April 2, which included the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacebuilding and Peace Operations, PBC Vice-Chairs, and Permanent Representatives from Bangladesh, Germany, France, and Colombia, attending in their capacity as Commission members.
During the audience, Ambassador Hilale conveyed the Commission’s congratulations to President Touadéra on his election under the 7th Republic, praising his roadmap for peace, reconciliation, development, and prosperity for the Central African people.
Hilale highlighted that the President now has the mandate and time to fully implement this roadmap, stressing the importance of consolidating peace with the sustained support of the international community. “Confidence in the CAR is growing day by day, a direct reflection of the progress achieved in peace and stability,” he noted.
‘We will not give up’
The Moroccan diplomat also recalled President Touadéra’s commitment during his 2019 New York visit to pursue transitional justice, accountability, and national reconciliation. He praised the progress made since, crediting a controlled security environment and clearly established political prospects for the gains achieved.
Hilale reaffirmed the crucial role of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA) in these achievements. He stressed the need to honor the sacrifices made by peacekeepers, affected civilians, and President Touadéra himself, whose dedication to lasting peace in the CAR has earned international admiration.
President Touadéra, in turn, reaffirmed the Central African Republic unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and development, acknowledging the essential support of genuine partners, particularly Morocco.
He highlighted the successful 2025 Casablanca roundtable on financing the national development plan as an example of concrete African solidarity. “We will not give up,” he declared, calling on the international community to support the CAR in its forward-looking phase.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Hilale invited President Touadéra to present the Central African model of peace and democracy before the PBC in New York in the coming months—a proposal the President welcomed enthusiastically.
