The AS FAR has announced that one of its players, Zineddine Derrag, has been handed a three-month suspension following an abnormal result in a routine anti-doping test conducted after a continental fixture.

According to an official statement released by the club, the notification was received from the African Union Sports Council Anti-Doping Program as part of standard monitoring procedures in African competitions. Subsequently, the Confederation of African Football Disciplinary Committee issued its decision on April 8, confirming the suspension, which took effect on April 9.

ASFAR clarified that the player’s positive test was not the result of intentional wrongdoing. Instead, Derrag is believed to have unknowingly consumed a product containing a prohibited substance. The club stressed that the player acted in good faith, lacking awareness of the product’s composition at the time of use.

Throughout the investigation, Draag demonstrated full cooperation with the relevant authorities, adhering to all regulatory procedures with transparency and responsibility. His conduct during the process was described as professional and aligned with the values expected at the highest level of the sport.

The club was keen to underline that this case remains isolated and does not reflect the player’s overall career. Before this incident, Derrag had undergone multiple anti-doping tests at both domestic and continental levels without any violations recorded, reinforcing his reputation for discipline and commitment.

Reaffirming its firm stance against doping, ASFAR reiterated its dedication to upholding integrity and professionalism across all levels of the organization. The club also indicated that it will take any necessary internal measures in accordance with its regulations and applicable legal frameworks.

The suspension represents a temporary setback, but both the player and the club appear determined to move forward, viewing the incident as an unfortunate but unintended mistake rather than a defining moment in Derrag’s career.
