Rabat – Real Madrid are in discussions with Toni Kroos over a plan to bring the retired midfielder back to the club in a new position with key responsibilities.
Kroos, 36, retired from football after representing Germany at the home 2024 European Championship, turning down Madrid’s offer to extend his contract.
Since then, he has focused on his personal projects, including the Toni Kroos Academy, which opened in Madrid in September 2024.
Sources familiar with the talks say one of the ideas being considered is for Kroos to join Madrid’s sporting structure, a path similar to that taken by Zinedine Zidane, who first returned as an advisor before moving into coaching.

The club sees Kroos as a valuable figure who could contribute to squad planning, represent Madrid at official events, and provide daily support at the training ground.
If the plan goes ahead, Kroos would work closely with president Florentino Perez, general manager Jose Angel Sanchez, and chief scout Juni Calafat.
The relationship between Kroos and the club remains strong, and his judgment, professionalism, and understanding of the dressing‑room dynamic are highly respected within the Bernabeu.
During his decade at Madrid, Kroos won 23 trophies, including five Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles, after joining from Bayern Munich in 2014.
He also lifted the World Cup with Germany in 2014, earning 114 caps for his country.
A logical step after a legendary career
A return would be both surprising and logical. Surprisingly, because less than two years have passed since his retirement, a decision was made despite still performing at the highest level.
Kroos wanted more time with his family and to focus on his academy and podcast with his brother Felix.
Those close to him said he was tired of constant travel and unlikely to return to elite football soon.
Yet the idea of rejoining Madrid now seems realistic. The club has endured two disappointing seasons since his departure, and his presence could help restore stability and leadership.
People close to the academy say Kroos has embraced his new role as a mentor, often describing himself as “already a coach.”
If he does return, his path could mirror Zidane’s, starting as an advisor, representing the club publicly, and gradually moving closer to the squad.
Zidane began as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant before coaching Madrid’s reserves and later leading the first team to three consecutive Champions League titles.
