Arsenal are through to the UEFA Champions League final after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Atlético Madrid, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory in their semi-final tie.
It wasn’t a night of many goals, but it was one for control and efficiency. In a tense contest at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners did just enough, leaning on discipline and structure to see off a stubborn Atlético side and take a decisive step toward European glory.
The breakthrough came at a crucial moment just before the interval. Viktor Gyökeres drove forward down the right and clipped a cross into Leandro Trossard, whose powerful effort was parried by Jan Oblak. Bukayo Saka reacted quickest, sweeping home from close range to give Arsenal the lead and ultimately decide the tie.

Saka delivers in a defining moment
Saka’s goal in the 45th minute proved decisive, not just on the night but across both legs, putting Arsenal 2-1 ahead on aggregate and shifting the balance firmly in their favor.
Beyond the goal itself, the England international continues to prove his importance on the European stage. He has now become the first Arsenal player to score in two different Champions League semi-finals, while also reaching 14 direct goal involvements at the Emirates in the competition: nine goals and five assists in as many appearances.
After taking the lead, Arsenal managed the game with maturity. Atlético Madrid pushed forward in the second half, but clear chances remained limited as Mikel Arteta’s side held their shape and controlled key moments.
Declan Rice anchored the midfield effectively, while the defensive unit stood firm under late pressure to preserve the clean sheet and secure progression.
The result sends Arsenal into their first Champions League final since 2006, a landmark achievement in Arteta’s project.
They will now face the winner of the other semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, set to be decided on May 6, with a place in the final on the line.
