Zakaria El Ouahdi is now at the center of various transfer intentions, with converging reports confirming that top-tier teams across Europe are increasingly interested in the recently named best African player in acquiring the services of the Belgian Pro League.
PSV Eindhoven has in particular identified the Moroccan right-back as their leading candidate to replace Sergiño Dest, who is expected to depart the club this summer. According to reports from Voetbalnieuws, El Ouahdi is the top priority for the Dutch side.
The 24 years old has seen his profile peak following a remarkable 2025-2026 campaign with K.R.C. Genk, where he scored 12 goals and 5 assists in 41 matches. These impressive figures secured him the Ebony Shoe, which is annually awarded to the best African player in the Belgian League, ahead of Adam Zorgan and Raphael Onyedika.
A steady journey to the top
As the race to sign the Moroccan international heats up, reports confirm interest from various clubs in France’s Ligue 1. Top French clubs, such as Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique Marseille, are reportedly monitoring the defender closely, hoping to lure him to France after his consistent performance in Belgium.
El Ouahdi’s rise has been spectacular. Since winning the Belgian Lion in 2025 and the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, he has successfully secured a spot in the Moroccan national team, making his debut against Paraguay this past March.
Genk, who signed the defender for just €2.5 million three years ago, now values him at approximately €15 million. With a contract running until 2028, the Belgian club is in a strong position to negotiate as PSV and the French giants prepare their moves for one of the most promising defenders in Europe today.
