Fez – Washington, D.C. marked W.A.C. Day on May 8 with an official celebration recognizing the cultural and international impact of Wydad Athletic Club and its strong connection with the Moroccan community abroad.
In a formal message issued on the occasion, Councilmember Robert C. White Jr. said the celebration goes beyond football, describing it as a tribute to cultural diversity, community spirit and international friendship.
White said W.A.C. Day reflects the power of sport to unite people from different backgrounds and strengthen ties between communities in Washington and abroad.
He also highlighted the important role played by the Moroccan community in enriching the social and cultural life of the American capital.
The councilmember recalled that his office introduced the proclamation officially recognizing W.A.C. Day in the District last year, calling it a meaningful step toward honoring global traditions and celebrating shared values through sport and culture.
According to White, the celebration represents the image of Washington as a global and diverse city that welcomes different cultures and encourages dialogue between communities.
He commended the organizers, supporters and community leaders for helping turn the event into a symbol of unity and mutual respect.
Founded in Casablanca, Wydad Athletic Club remains one of Morocco’s most successful and widely supported football clubs, with a strong presence among Moroccan communities living abroad.
The celebration of W.A.C. Day in Washington also reflects the growing cultural links between Morocco and the U.S. where sport increasingly serves as a bridge for cultural exchange and community engagement.
White concluded his message by expressing hope that the occasion would continue to inspire unity, friendship and stronger international connections in the years ahead.
