Casablanca — Morocco’s Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit held a meeting today in Rabat with leaders and representatives of political parties that are not represented in Parliament, as preparations continue for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23.
The meeting came two days after a similar gathering with political parties that currently hold parliamentary groups or caucuses. Discussions focused on the broader framework of the electoral process and the organizational measures already put in place ahead of the vote.
Participants were briefed on regulatory texts that have already been adopted, as well as decisions still being prepared concerning the accounting framework governing political parties.
The officials also reviewed preparations linked to the revision of Morocco’s general electoral lists, an operation set to begin on May 15 ahead of the upcoming elections for the Chamber of Representatives.
According to the information shared during the meeting, authorities are also preparing a nationwide institutional communication campaign that will run across different media platforms, including digital channels. Administrative and logistical arrangements tied to the revision of electoral lists were also discussed.
Another point raised during the talks was the progress made on the electronic platform that will be used for filing candidacy declarations. Officials also updated party representatives on a separate digital platform intended to facilitate voting proxy procedures for Moroccans living abroad.
The meeting included exchanges on measures already finalized as well as others still being completed before the legislative vote takes place in September.
Representatives of the political parties expressed their readiness to contribute alongside public authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the upcoming elections. They also reiterated their commitment to what was described as Morocco’s irreversible democratic choice.
