Morocco’s Medical professionals and experts in aesthetic medicine have called for stronger protection of patients from the risks associated with cosmetic procedures performed outside the legal medical framework, stressing the importance of reinforcing regulatory oversight and ensuring compliance with health safety standards and professional ethics in a sector experiencing rapid growth across the country.
These calls came during a specialized press conference on Saturday in Casablanca. Organized by Établissement de santé Al Madina, the event saw the participation of healthcare professionals and specialists from across the country as part of efforts to raise awareness about the dangers linked to illegal practices in the field of aesthetic medicine.
The hidden toll of illegal aesthetic procedures
Professor Hassan Boukend warned against the growing number of violations observed in the sector. In particular, Professor Boukend lamented the spread of cosmetic procedures carried out outside the legal medical framework or in facilities lacking the necessary equipment and modern technologies, and without specialized medical supervision. He stressed that such practices have led to serious health complications, including cases of physical deformities and, in some instances, deaths.
The specialist also emphasized the importance of awareness and prevention campaigns, calling on the media to play a central role in communicating public health messages and promoting a culture of prevention and responsibility.
For her part, Dr. Kawtar Medouar explained that the initiative primarily aims to raise awareness about the dangers of illegal practices carried out by unauthorized centers operating without specialized medical supervision. She also encouraged citizens to seek treatment at accredited healthcare institutions that guarantee quality and safety standards.
For Dr. Medouar, the event mainly provided an opportunity to highlight the latest medical technologies used in aesthetic medicine, as well as the growing role of Moroccan expertise in keeping pace with scientific and technological developments in the sector at the international level.
Charting a new model for Safe, accredited aesthetic care
The conference’s ultimate highlight was the official inauguration of Askin Clinic. Specialized in aesthetic medicine, dermatological treatments, and advanced anti-aging technologies, the new center joins the integrated medical ecosystem of Établissement de santé Al Madina as part of the institution’s efforts to expand its specialized healthcare services.
