One of football’s most closely watched young talents has made his international decision. Ayyoub Bouaddi has chosen to represent Morocco at senior level, turning down France and opting for the Atlas Lions.
The decision was officially confirmed by the FRMF today, ending months of speculation surrounding one of the brightest players of the 2007 generation.
According to French outlet L’Équipe, Bouaddi, considered among the generational talents of his age group alongside names such as Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí and Rodrigo Mora, ultimately chose Morocco despite previously playing ten times for France’s U21 team.
Bouaddi, who was born in Creil and developed at Lille OSC, now has a path toward major tournaments that includes the 2026 World Cup and, perhaps even more significantly, the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will co-host.

The midfielder had previously outlined his ambitions. Speaking in December, he said his biggest dream was “to win the World Cup, the Champions League, to win everything.”
He also admitted the expanded 2026 tournament carried special appeal, saying: “2026 is attractive, of course. It’s a beautiful World Cup with a new format, and everyone would like to play it.”
Speaking to L’Équipe, a source close to the federation described Morocco as “one of the most structured, visible and ambitious football development systems today,” pointing to the opportunities and environment now offered to elite prospects.
