Casablanca — The seventh edition of the DGSN Open Days, running in Rabat until May 22, has drawn large crowds interested in discovering the different branches of police work. One of the busiest sections is the explosives technicians unit, especially among younger visitors.
The space showcases the work carried out by Morocco’s bomb disposal police, whose missions focus on protecting lives and property through preventive security operations and field interventions involving suspicious or explosive devices.
Naoufal Ouahbi, head of the Central Explosives Technicians Service at the General Directorate of National Security, said the exhibition presents the equipment and technologies used by both the central unit and regional bomb disposal teams.
According to Ouahbi, the unit’s work is largely preventive. Teams are deployed during major sporting, cultural, political, and social events, where they conduct inspections, scans, and searches to ensure venues are free of potential threats.
Robots and remote intervention
The operations also extend to official visits by foreign guests to Morocco. Bomb disposal teams are tasked with securing conference halls, meeting venues, and other locations included in official programs.
Ouahbi said technological developments have significantly changed how interventions are carried out in the field. Officers no longer need to physically approach potentially dangerous objects during operations.
Instead, specialized robots equipped with advanced technologies are used to inspect, move, and scan suspicious items remotely. The machines include modern detection and sensing systems and can also be used during dismantling and destruction procedures.
The equipment displayed during the event reflects the broader modernization efforts led by the General Directorate of National Security, which has expanded the use of advanced technologies across several security units in recent years.
The Open Days initiative aims to strengthen ties between the police institution and the public by giving visitors direct access to different security units and their missions. It also serves as an opportunity to present the tools, vehicles, and technologies used by police services to maintain public order and ensure the safety of citizens and property.
The event is being held in Rabat and continues through May 22.
