Rabat – Moroccan international goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has officially secured the RSL Goalkeeper of the month of May.
Yassine Bounou edged out the accolade ahead of Al-Ahli’s Senegalese shot-stopper Édouard Mendy and Al-Nassr’s Brazilian goalkeeper Bento, following a string of stellar performances in the final stretch of the season. Featuring in five league fixtures for Al-Hilal in the period evaluated for the award, Bono kept three clean sheets and provided a steady, commanding presence that anchored his team’s defensive line.
This monthly honor caps off an exceptional domestic campaign for Bono, who has conceded just 20 goals across 26 league appearances while recording an impressive 14 clean sheets.
Before joining Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, he won La Liga’s prestigious Ricardo Zamora Trophy in 2021–22, becoming the first Sevilla FC player to ever win the accolade. He left the Spanish club as two-time UEFA Europa League champion, and he won the Europa MVP during the 2023 final.
Following his legendary, clean-sheet-heavy heroics at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Bono went on to secure back-to-back CAF African Goalkeeper of the Year titles 2023 and 2025, the Golden Glove at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and consecutive top-three finishes in both FIFA’s The Best and the Ballon d’Or’s Yashin Trophy rankings.
