Rabat – Wydad Athletic Club secured their first Botola Pro victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Difaâ El Jadida 2-0 at Stade El Abdi in the second round of Morocco’s top flight.
Oussama Zemraoui opened the scoring for Wydad in the 27th minute, giving Paulo Sérgio’s side a one-goal advantage at halftime.
Congolese forward Silvère Ganvoula then doubled the visitors’ lead in the 59th minute, converting an assist from Morocco international Yahia Attiyat Allah.
Wydad controlled the more dangerous attacking moments despite having less possession, recording 11 shots compared with Difaâ’s three and five efforts on target to the hosts’ two.
The Casablanca club held onto the two-goal advantage through the final whistle to collect their first three points of the campaign.
Wydad respond after opening defeat
The result provided an immediate response to Wydad’s disappointing start to the new season.
They opened their Botola campaign with a surprise 3-1 home defeat to newly promoted Widad Témara at the Mohammed V Stadium on September 26.
Saturday’s victory leaves Wydad with three points from two matches, with one win and one defeat.
Difaâ El Jadida, meanwhile, remain without a point after two rounds. Their difficult start began with a 6-2 home defeat to COD Meknès before Saturday’s loss to Wydad.
The match also marked Ganvoula’s first league goal of the campaign, while Zemraoui opened his scoring account for the season.
Wydad will now look to build momentum after their first victory, while Difaâ face an early task of recovering from consecutive defeats and eight goals conceded in their first two league matches.
