Morocco Edges Cameroon 1-0 to Reach U-17 AFCON Semi-Finals

Morocco’s Under-17 national football team

Rabat – Morocco’s Under-17 national football team beat Cameroon 1-0 on Sunday evening at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, booking a spot in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals.

The high-stakes quarter-final match was decided early in the first half. Cameroon missed a big chance to score in the 13th minute when forward Arnold Massokon broke through Morocco’s defense but failed to finish.

Morocco took a chance through that mistake just four minutes later. In the 17th minute, Mohamed Habib Zenbi scored the only goal of the match, giving the host nation a 1-0 lead.

Cameroon fought hard for an equalizer in the second half, using their physical strength to create aerial chances. Massokon threatened again in the 69th minute with a close header, but Morocco’s defense held strong.

Led by captain Ismail El Aoud, the Atlas Cubs absorbed continuous pressure in the final ten minutes to protect their clean sheet.

The Atlas Cubs will remain in Sale to face the winner of the heavyweight quarter-final fixture between Senegal and Mali in what promises to be a thrilling semi-final showdown at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
