Ayyoub Bouaddi: ‘I’m Proud to Represent My Country’

LOSC Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi has spoken publicly for the first time about his decision to represent Morocco, describing it as “the right choice” and expressing pride in joining the Atlas Lions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 18-year-old talent had been at the center of a long-standing international battle between Morocco and France. Considered one of the brightest young talents in Ligue 1, Bouaddi ultimately opted for Morocco, highlighting another notable success for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) in its recruitment of dual-national players.

France had hoped to keep the Senlis-born midfielder within its national team system, with plans for him to progress from the youth ranks to the senior side. However, Morocco’s sporting project, Bouaddi’s strong sense of national identity, and family ties played a decisive role in his final decision.

Speaking to the FRMF during Morocco’s training camp, Bouaddi commended the warm welcome he received after arriving on Saturday, May 23, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maamora.

“The coach and the president told me immediately that choosing Morocco was the right decision and that I would receive an incredible welcome,” Bouaddi explained.

“They did not lie. The welcome has been incredible, the facilities are top-level, the team is fantastic, so everything is perfect.”

The young midfielder admitted that making his international choice brought him relief after months of uncertainty.

“I made my decision, and I am very proud of it. I hope it brings many beautiful things for the future. It is a relief to have made this choice,” he added.

Bouaddi also highlighted the emotional aspect of his commitment to Morocco, emphasizing his family’s happiness and his desire to succeed with the national team.

“I am very happy to represent my country, Morocco. I hope we will achieve great things in the competitions to come,” he said.

The Lille midfielder said he was impressed by Morocco’s infrastructure and the atmosphere within the squad.

“I was pleasantly surprised. I don’t think there are many facilities like these in the world. We have a very good team, everyone gets along well, and everything is going perfectly.”

Bouaddi concluded his message by thanking Moroccan supporters for their reception and backing.

“I want to thank the Moroccan people for this welcome, and I hope we will achieve great things together.”

Bouaddi is expected to make his first appearances for Morocco in upcoming friendlies against Burundi and Madagascar, before potentially joining the Atlas Lions’ squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
