The city of Agadir hosted the closing ceremony of the ninth edition of the Golf Cup for Sports Journalists on Saturday, May 23, following a three-day event organized by the Agadir branch of the Moroccan League of Sports Journalists under the slogan: “Open and Committed Media… Sport as a Lever for Tourism Development.”
The tournament featured the participation of journalists and media professionals from Morocco, France, and Spain, reflecting the international dimension of the event.
Spanish journalist Jose Merquez won the title of the ninth edition, ahead of Said Lamrati, media officer of Moghreb Atlético Tetuán, while journalist Ilyas El Battahi from Le360 finished in third place.

In the sports photography competition, the jury awarded first prize to photojournalist Issa Saouri from Le Matin. Salma Sghir, representing “Podium Sport,” secured second place, while Mohamed Aftahi from “Al Bayane” claimed third position.
Alongside the sporting event, one of Agadir’s hotels hosted an awards ceremony honoring the winners as well as a number of athletes, media personalities, and figures from the tourism and civil society sectors who have distinguished themselves at both national and international levels.
The tribute is part of nationwide efforts to promote a culture of recognition and appreciation for those contributing to the development of Moroccan sport, while encouraging continued commitment despite existing challenges and constraints.

This ninth edition also provided a platform to strengthen communication and openness between members of the Moroccan sports media community and their international counterparts. In addition, it helped promote golf as one of the historic sports included in the Summer Olympic Games.
The Golf Cup further highlighted Agadir’s sporting and tourism potential, reaffirming the role of sport as a major catalyst for tourism development in the region.
