Rabat –The Rabat prefecture of police has launched a judicial investigation, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to determine the circumstances and motives behind an incident involving a police officer in the capital.
According to a statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), a police officer serving in Rabat was found to have attempted to take his own life inside his family home using his service weapon.
The officer sustained serious injuries to the neck and was urgently transferred to hospital for medical treatment.
Following the discovery of the incident, judicial police units were deployed to the scene to carry out technical examinations and preliminary investigations. Ballistic expertise was also conducted on the service weapon in order to clarify the precise circumstances surrounding the event.
Initial elements of the investigation suggest that family-related difficulties may have contributed to the incident, although authorities have stressed that no definitive conclusions have yet been reached.
The investigation remains ongoing to establish all facts and determine the exact causes and circumstances of the case.
