Rabat – Morocco’s Jamal Sellami has announced Jordan’s 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The lineup features Yazeed Abu Laila, Abdallah Al Fakhouri, Noor Bani Atetah, Abdallah Nasib, Saed Alrosan, Yazan Alarab, Saleem Obeid Mohammad Abualnadi, Husam Abudahab, Ehsan Haddad, Anas Badawi, Mohannad Abu Taha, Mohammed Abu Hasheesh, among several others.
The World Cup will kick off on Thursday next week, with the Jordanian team placed in Group J alongside Austria, Algeria, and Argentina.
Jordan will play its opener on June 17, and its second game will be on June 23 against Algeria.
Jordan will face the World Cup 2022 winner, Argentina, on June 28.
Sellami is determined that his team can deliver a surprising performance during the World Cup.
“And we too have the right to dream and to strive to be a strong team and present ourselves well,” Sellami told Arabic sports channel TFKm, stressing his team can show who the “Al-Nashama” are.
He stressed that the match against Austria will be crucial during his squad’s World Cup campaign.
“It sets your path and… We hope that by then we will already have earned points and that this match will be a step toward continuing in the World Cup,” Sellami concluded.
The Jordanian team is known as “Al Nashama”, or the noble ones, and has gained momentum in Arab football since Sellami was appointed as a coach in June 2024.
They built a reputation after their run at the 2023 Asian Cup and the 2025 Arab Cup.
Jordan finished as the runners-up of the Arab Cup, losing a thrilling final to Morocco.
Last year, King Abdullah II of Jordan granted citizenship to Sellami, recognizing his contributions to the development of football in Jordan.
This came after the coach etched his name in Jordanian football history after he helped his team to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“It is a great honor for me today. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince informed me that King Abdullah II personally requested that I be granted Jordanian citizenship,” the Moroccan coach said last year.
