Rabat – Real Madrid are working on deals for Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, on the condition that Florentino Perez wins the upcoming club presidential elections.
Konate will leave Liverpool as a free agent when his contract ends on June 30.
It is confirmed that the 27-year-old will not sign a new contract with Liverpool. And Marca reports that his representatives have been in talks with Real Madrid since February, and the Spanish giants are now favorites to sign the French defender.
The move has reportedly been approved by José Mourinho, who stands to be announced as Real Madrid’s new manager after the club’s leadership elections.
The center-back will reportedly replace David Alaba. With Militão’s injury issues and doubts over the Austrian and Huijsen, the club needs defensive upgrades, making Konaté their top choice.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have made Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries their main target for the right-back position. The club has already held talks with the 30-year-old, who has a €20 million release clause.
With 34-year-old Dani Carvajal leaving when his contract ends in June, Real Madrid would only have Trent Alexander-Arnold left as a senior right-back
According to The Athletic, citing sources close to the deal, personal terms of the player are not expected to be an issue.
The same source claims that Madrid will finish signing Dumfries after Sunday’s presidential election, provided Perez wins.
While both Konaté and Dumfries have been selected by France and the Netherlands for the upcoming World Cup, Real Madrid intend to finalize both transfers before the tournament begins on June 11.
