Rabat – Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has named his squad’s designated penalty takers, with Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi among the key options from the spot.
Speaking during a press conference, Enrique reflected on the team’s approach to taking penalties and explained why the duty is shared among several players.
“Last year, we showed that we don’t have a true specialist—a player capable of scoring nine out of ten penalties. On the contrary, we have several players who possess the ability to take them,” he said.
The Spanish tactician further explained that penalty duties are never fixed in advance, noting that match context dictates who steps up.
“As for who takes the penalty, it depends on many factors: the timing of the kick during the match, the individual form of each player, the scoreline, and many other things,” he added.
When pressed on which squad members are officially in line for spot-kick duties, the Spanish coach revealed the names under consideration. .
“We have a list of three or four recommended players, including Vitinha, Dembélé, Beraldo, Hakimi, Kvaratskhelia, Doué, and Nuno Mendes. We have many players who are capable of taking penalties, and then we make the decision.”
Hakimi’s inclusion on PSG’s penalty list reflects his important role under Enrique. Beyond his attacking contribution as a full-back, it shows the manager’s trust in his composure during big moments.
After a 3–1 win over Le Mans, Paris Saint-Germain turn their attention to European duty as they prepare to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.
In the UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 encounter, Enrique’s side will look to test their tactical depth, finishing against the English champions in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the league stage.
