Rabat – Morocco’s police carried out two separate operations, resulting in the seizure of nearly 1.9 tons of cannabis on Thursday in Souq Larba’a al Gharb and Nador.
During the early hours of Thursday, police carried out their operation aimed at combating drug trafficking.
The first operation took place on the outskirts of Nador, with police seizing a utility vehicle bearing falsified license plates. The vehicle was loaded with 40 packages of cannabis with a total weight of 1,280 kilograms. The driver succeeded in fleeing the scene.
The second operation took place in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) at the entrance of Souq Larba’a, located in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region.
During the operation, police arrested a 31-year-old suspect who was caught in possession of and trafficking 590 kilograms of cannabis aboard a vehicle that was also fitted with falsified license plates. Police said that the suspect was the subject of a nationwide wanted notice by the judicial police in Tangier.
Police put the suspect in custody to determine the circumstances of the case and to uncover all details of the two cases.
The investigation also seeks to identify any potential links and other accomplices involved.
Moroccan police handled 106,117 cases related to drug trafficking, arresting 134,126 suspects, including 378 foreigners, last year.
Police also seized 170 tons and 796 kilograms of cannabis resin and derivatives during different operations in 2025, as well as 1 ton, 731 kilograms, and 558 grams of cocaine.
Moroccan customs also contribute to anti-drug trafficking in Morocco. According to the customs annual report, drug trafficking recorded a significant surge in seized quantities, including 77.67 tons of cannabis, in addition to cocaine and heroin.
