Rabat – João Sacramento, Mohamed Ouahbi’s Portuguese assistant coach, posted an emotional tribute to Morocco following the Atlas Lions’ draw against Brazil, and it quickly gained traction online, with the post amassing more than 130,000 likes in less than a day as fans praised his apparent connection to the national team.
“For this country, I will give everything,” Sacramento wrote alongside photos from MetLife Stadium, adding that representing Morocco at the World Cup was a childhood dream he “never takes for granted.”

For many supporters, the message raised a simple question: who exactly is Joao Sacramento?
At just 36 years old, Sacramento already carries one of the most impressive resumes among Morocco’s coaching staff. Unlike many former players-turned-coaches, the Portuguese tactician built his career through scouting, analysis, and tactical development rather than through a professional playing career.
Born in Barcelos, Portugal, Sacramento studied sports and began working in football in analytical and scouting roles, including spells with Cardiff City and the Welsh national team, before joining AS Monaco’s scouting department.
His breakthrough came in 2019, when José Mourinho selected him as part of his coaching staff at Tottenham Hotspur. During Mourinho’s time in North London, Sacramento became a familiar figure on the touchline and in the club’s “All or Nothing” documentary.
Football fans may also recognize him from a viral moment in which Mourinho sprinted toward referees after a Tottenham match while Sacramento hurried behind him – a clip that circulated widely online at the time.
Sacramento later followed Mourinho to AS Roma before continuing his journey with Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain and Qatari side Al-Duhail.
His arrival within Morocco’s setup reflects the increasingly international dimension of the Atlas Lions’ technical project following the country’s historic 2022 World Cup run.
Yet beyond his European pedigree, it is Sacramento’s apparent emotional connection to Morocco that has recently captured fans’ attention. Many fans praised the sincerity of his comments online.
The moment also arrives as Morocco’s coaching staff gains growing international recognition during the 2026 World Cup, particularly after the Atlas Lions’ strong performance against one of football’s most decorated nations.
While Ouahbi remains the face of Morocco’s bench, Sacramento is quietly becoming one of its most intriguing personalities, a coach shaped by elite European football who now seems deeply invested in Morocco’s journey on the world stage.
