Rabat – Guinea-Bissau has renewed its clear and consistent support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including the Sahara, following talks between senior officials in Rabat today.

Fatumata Jau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, spoke after a meeting with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. She described her country’s position as firm and unchanged, and affirmed full support for Morocco’s sovereignty over all its territory.

Jau also reiterated her government’s endorsement of the Autonomy Plan put forward by Morocco. She said the initiative remains, in her view, the only serious and realistic basis to settle what she called an artificial dispute.

She pointed to concrete steps that reflect this stance, in particular, the opening of a Consulate General in Dakhla in October 2020. According to her, this decision reflects strong bilateral ties and confirms a shared political direction between the two countries.

The minister linked this move to a broader international shift, in which several countries now align with Morocco’s approach to the regional dispute. She referred to the diplomatic momentum led at the highest level of the Moroccan state, which continues to draw support from African and international partners.

Jau also welcomed the latest United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on the matter, noting that it supports the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty as a framework for a political solution that is fair, lasting, and acceptable to all parties.

The meeting in Rabat forms part of ongoing exchanges between Morocco and its African partners, as Rabat continues to strengthen alliances around its position on the Sahara.
