Rabat – Despite their 2–1 defeat against Germany, Cote d’Ivoire head coach Emerse Fae still believes his team can emulate Morocco’s run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“We hope our journey can be the same as Morocco’s in 2022,” he told journalists following Cote d’Ivoire’s defeat to Germany.

Cote d’Ivoire showed enormous effort during its game against Germany and was taking the lead 1–0 against Germany.

However, Deniz Undav scored a winning goal for Germany in the 94th minute after an equalizer.

Cote d’Ivoire played with style and carried out over 400 passes, with 85% pass accuracy, while also creating several chances to take the lead in the match. Many observers, however, regretted how the team backed off after tremendous efforts, allowing Germany more space to regain control and create opportunities.

Despite the defeat, Cote d’Ivoire received applause and made headlines for nearly beating Germany.

ESPN said that it was not a surprise for Cote d’Ivoire to make such a spectacular performance, commending their bright, dynamic, and committed display from Ivorian players.

“It was a late heartbreak for the Elephants, whose game management had been largely admirable during the final portion of the match, knowing when to slow things down, knowing when to clear the danger, knowing when to buy a foul, and knowing when to pick their moments to put pressure back on Germany,” ESPN wrote.

The defeat, however, does not stop Cote d’Ivoire from dreaming as they remain in a strong position thanks to their win against Ecuador.

Now Cote d’Ivoire will play against Curacao on Thursday, June 25.
