Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) forecasts another legacy from Morocco, especially following the Atlas Lions’ dazzling performance on Saturday during their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Brazil.

“Their impressive 1-1 draw against five-time world champions Brazil was not celebrated as an upset. Instead, it felt like the performance of a team that now expects to compete with football’s traditional powers,” CAF wrote on Monday.

The football organization also recalled Morocco’s coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s confidence reflected on the pitch.

Ouahbi, during Saturday’s post-match press conference, emphasized how the draw is a sign that his team can further advance in the tournament.

“We stuck to our principles. We had to play our game and play it well, and we were satisfied with that,” he said, noting that he is not disappointed with the result.

CAF recalled how usual names, including Achraf Hakimi and Yassine Bounou, showed their quality again.

However, the confederation shed special light on 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who showed maturity and composure compared to his age.

“The future appears increasingly bright. The generation that stunned the world in Qatar laid the groundwork for Morocco’s rise, but the draw against Brazil suggested the project has evolved,” CAF added.

Morocco now faces another test, and this time the journey will be in Boston against Scotland, as Match 2 of the group stage.

The game is on Friday at 11 p.m. Moroccan time.

Later on June 24, Morocco will face Haiti.
