Rabat – Morocco With Purpose is launching Jaliya Day, a national symposium dedicated to the Moroccan diaspora.
The event will take place on July 22 from 2 p.m. at Carré d’Or in Casablanca. The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Culture are supporting the initiative, which aims to connect Morocco’s talent pipeline with the country’s leading economic, entrepreneurial, and institutional opportunities.
Morocco With Purpose, a program dedicated to Moroccans residing abroad, reaffirmed in a statement its commitment to continuing initiatives that bring together young Moroccans living abroad every summer through institutional, cultural, and economic immersion programs.
The initiative seeks to help Moroccans residing abroad reconnect with Morocco and engage with key decision-makers, as well as allow them to contribute directly to Morocco’s development.
“Today, this mission enters a new phase with the launch of Jaliya Day, the first national event exclusively dedicated to showcasing and empowering the skills and expertise of the Moroccan diaspora,” the statement said.
According to Morocco With Purpose founder Hiba El Aidi, Jaliya Day aims to connect diaspora members with public institutions, major companies, investors, incubators, and support organizations to discuss the opportunities available across Morocco.
The agenda for the event includes a series of discussions that bring together entrepreneurs, investors, students, professionals, and project leaders on the same platform to explore opportunities across Morocco.
Jaliya Day will also host ministers, public institutions, companies, and incubators to present existing programs related to investment, entrepreneurship, employment, innovation, financing, and support services available to the diaspora.
Panel discussions and conferences will cover different topics, including entrepreneurship, innovation, investment, recruitment and employment, as well as the strategic role of Moroccan talent established abroad.
The event will also feature the Jaliya Pitch Session, an initiative that seeks to showcase entrepreneurs from the diaspora, who will present their projects before a jury composed of leading figures from the national ecosystem, including Mehdi Alaoui, Moulay Rachid Cherkaoui, Hamid Ben Elafdil, and Lamiae Benmakhlouf.
The diaspora is a pillar in Morocco’s development journey
Jaliya Day is being organized in collaboration with institutional and economic partners, including Banque Populaire Group, Technopark, Maroc PME, and CGEM.
The event is open to the public upon registration, with Morocco With Purpose reiterating its ambition to continue positioning Moroccans living abroad as essential contributors to Morocco’s economic development, innovation, and international influence.
King Mohammed VI has been urging similar initiatives seeking to prioritize the diaspora’s needs at all levels.
In 2024, the monarch highlighted the role of the diaspora in contributing to Morocco’s development.
To better support Moroccans living abroad and their contributions, the monarch announced plans to restructure the institutions that manage diaspora affairs.
“I have decided that the mechanisms used in managing the affairs of Moroccans residing abroad should be revisited,” the King said, calling for an overhaul to eliminate overlaps and streamline operations.
A key component of the King’s plan involves the establishment of two main bodies dedicated to diaspora affairs.
Morocco is among the largest recipients of remittances from its diaspora in the MENA region.
In only five months, Morocco’s diaspora remittances exceeded MAD 50.22 billion ($5.36 billion) by the end of May.
Morocco’s Foreign Exchange Office said the figure is up from MAD 46.16 billion ($4.93 billion) during the same period a year earlier.
The number represents an increase of 8.8% year-on-year.
