Rabat – Kylian Mbappe reassured France’s fans about his injury following Tuesday evening’s quarterfinal clash against Morocco in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mbappe was unable to complete the full 90 minutes, coming off in the 77th minute after scoring once and missing a penalty during the match.
After the game, the French forward downplayed concerns over his condition. “I’m fine. I took a hit to the ankle, but everything is okay. [Jean-Philippe] Mateta was more ready than me to play the last 15 minutes,” he said.
France’s victory brought an end to Morocco’s hopes of repeating its historic run from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
At Boston Stadium, Mbappe found the net in the 60th minute, bringing his tally in this edition of the tournament to eight goals. He now shares the top scorer spot with Argentina’s Lionel Messi. The goal also marked Mbappe’s 20th in World Cup history, placing him just one behind Messi, the competition’s all-time leading scorer.
With this win, Les Bleus secured a place in the semifinals, where they will face the winner of Spain versus Belgium.
“There is still a long way to go,” Mbappe said. “We know that what lies ahead will be even tougher than what we have already faced. But we are ready for anything. We will take time to recover and watch the next match to find out who we will be playing against.”
