Rabat – The Secretariat of State for Social Inclusion launched Morocco’s second National Disability Awareness Campaign under the slogan “Let’s Change Our Perspective… Toward an Inclusive Environment for Persons with Disabilities, Without Barriers.”
The campaign is taking place from July 17- 27, with the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) seeking to raise public awareness of the barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
The initiative works to encourage practical measures and to ensure equal access to services, full participation in society, equal opportunities, and greater independence.
Through specialized training and capacity-building programs offered to students, professionals, and stakeholders, the campaign works to promote the concept of comprehensive inclusion, reduce social and institutional barriers that limit people with disabilities, and strengthen the responsibility of institutions.
A call for multiple responsible sectors
Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family Minister Naima Ben Yahia stressed in her launching speech the lack of sensitization towards the situation.
While the ministry relies on close coordination with government departments, partnerships with civil organizations, and support of media outlets and content creators to ensure reachability for all segments of society, she mentioned that disability is a cross-cutting issue that requires a shared responsibility, extending beyond the mandate of her ministry or any single sector.
Ben Yahia depicted this sensitization campaign as a national call for collective action to build a more inclusive Morocco where everyone enjoys equal opportunities and full participation in civic life. It marks a new step toward reshaping societal perceptions of disability while reducing discrimination and exclusion.
As part of the campaign, the minister shed light on the various measures already implemented to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.
One of the initiatives introduced is a partnership between the ministry, the Secretariat of State for Social Inclusion, and the National Railways Office (ONCF) to improve access to rail transportation for persons with disabilities. Through the agreement, the ministry covers 30% of train ticket costs, a measure that has so far benefited nearly 8000 individuals.
Minister Ben Yahia also announced the signing of partnership agreements valued at 76 million MAD with local authorities to enhance accessibility in public spaces and infrastructure. The initiative seeks to eliminate physical obstacles that limit mobility and access to essential public services, supporting increased independence for persons with disabilities while fostering equal opportunities and a more inclusive society.
