Rabat – King Mohammed VI has congratulated King Felipe VI of Spain following the Spanish national team’s victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a congratulatory message, the monarch hailed La Roja’s performances throughout the tournament and described the triumph as a testament to Spanish football’s enduring excellence on the global stage.
King Mohammed VI extended his warmest congratulations to King Felipe VI and, through him, to the Spanish people after Spain secured its second FIFA World Cup title.
The Moroccan monarch described the achievement as a major sporting milestone that once again confirmed the strength and international standing of Spanish football.
The King mentioned that Morocco shared in the celebrations of its neighboring country, emphasizing the close ties between the two nations.
He commended Spain’s youthful squad for displaying determination, resilience, and a strong competitive spirit throughout the tournament, saying those qualities had earned them the merit title.
The message also expressed hopes for the continued success of Spanish football, wishing the national team and the country’s football institutions further achievements in the years ahead.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final to lift the trophy for the first time since its historic triumph in South Africa in 2010.
The victory marked the country’s second World Cup title and capped an impressive campaign under head coach Luis de la Fuente.
Morocco and Spain also share another significant football connection beyond the tournament.
Together with Portugal, the two countries are set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with Morocco and Spain expected to stage the majority of the tournament’s matches as football celebrates the competition’s centenary.
