Rabat – The Justice and Development Party (PJD) said its central committee overseeing the legislative electoral campaign received complaints from several electoral districts.
In a brief statement, PJD said it received complaints from several electoral districts, “the most serious of which concern the integrity of ballot boxes, including an incident detected by young people in the city of Tangier.”
The party said its central committee “has also been informed of reports that official ballot papers were found outside polling stations and were allegedly intended to be used in favor of a candidate from the ‘Tractor’ Party in Tangier.”
The party refers to the Authenticity and Modernity Party, also known as PAM.
For PJD, “these practices constitute a serious infringement of the integrity of the elections in the district concerned, requiring urgent intervention by the relevant authorities and the public prosecutor’s office.”
The prosecutor general at the Tangier Court of Appeal intervened, announcing the opening of a judicial investigation into a video showing a glass ballot box containing white envelopes.
The prosecutor said in a statement that the investigation aims to look into the matter to establish the facts and determine the legal consequences.
Reports said security services arrested a person in a polling station on suspicion of possessing “illegal electoral papers.”
The authorities also closed the polling station following protests by observers representing political parties at the station.
Elections have been ongoing under calm and appropriate conditions, according to statements from the Interior Ministry.
Voter turnout reached 21% as of 3 p.m. today, with the vote ending at 7 p.m.
In addition to PJD, the Left Alliance also filed a formal complaint with police, reporting what it called “suspicious activity and violations” around several polling centers in the Tiflet-Romani electoral district.
