Meknes – Following a chaotic end to the 2026 World Cup final, FIFA has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate a series of altercations involving the Argentine squad.

According to Sky Sports, world football’s governing body is currently analyzing the referee’s official reports and reviewing match footage to determine if the post-game clashes with the Spanish team warrant formal suspensions or fines.

The players and coaches involved could face match suspensions, the report said, adding that the Argentine Football Association (AFA) is at risk of receiving a significant financial penalty.

The investigation centers on several key clashes after the final whistle. FIFA is reviewing Leandro Paredes’ red card for violent conduct during Spain’s celebrations, alongside an incident where Nahuel Molina punched Spanish midfielder Rodri.

Assistant coach Roberto Ayala is also under scrutiny for allegedly shoving Dani Olmo during the post-match chaos.

Beyond the physical fights, FIFA is also looking into the Argentine delegation’s behavior during the trophy ceremony.

Several players caused widespread controversy by turning their backs while Spain lifted the World Cup, a gesture that officials will evaluate for potential disrespect or unsportsmanlike conduct.

FIFA has not announced any penalties or player suspensions. The governing body will wait until its full disciplinary process is complete before making a final ruling, which is expected to take several weeks.

Spain captured the 2026 FIFA World Cup title with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Argentina at MetLife Stadium.

While the historic win secured global glory for the Spanish squad, the match will ultimately be remembered just as much for the dramatic post-game clashes that left Argentina facing heavy FIFA scrutiny.
