Rabat – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has encouraged Spain to dream of winning a third World Cup title in 2030 following the national team’s victory at the 2026 tournament.

Sánchez delivered the message while welcoming the Spanish players and coaching staff during celebrations marking the country’s second men’s World Cup triumph.

“Why not dream of a third World Cup in 2030?” Sánchez said. “Especially with Spain hosting the tournament.”

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 following extra time in the final, securing its first World Cup title since 2010. Sánchez and King Felipe VI later received the team before players joined a large victory parade through Madrid.

The Spanish leader thanked the Spanish Football Federation for its work throughout the tournament and for organizing the celebrations following the team’s return home.

He also expressed his appreciation to the coaching staff and players for their performances during the competition.

“We greatly enjoyed watching you play,” Sánchez told the squad.

The prime minister’s comments reflected Spain’s growing confidence following another major international success.

Morocco, Portugal and Spain prepare for 2030

Spain will not host the 2030 World Cup alone. Morocco, Portugal and Spain were officially appointed joint hosts by FIFA, while Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will stage one centenary celebration match each.

The tournament will therefore carry particular importance for all three main host nations, with Morocco preparing to stage the men’s World Cup for the first time.

For Spain, the competition will offer an opportunity to defend the trophy in front of home supporters and pursue a third star.

Sánchez’s statement also shifts attention toward preparations for 2030, when the tournament will return to Europe and Africa four years after the expanded 2026 edition in North America.

Spain will enter the next World Cup among the leading contenders after adding the 2026 title to its first triumph in South Africa in 2010.
