Rabat – After 38 days of World Cup action, football fans will not have to wait long before Europe’s biggest domestic competitions return for the 2026-2027 season.
The new campaign across the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 will begin between August 15 and August 28, giving players roughly a month to recover before club football resumes.
La LigaÂ
Spain’s La Liga will be the first of Europe’s top five leagues to return, beginning on Saturday, August 15.
To allow players who reached the World Cup semifinals additional rest, the league has postponed the opening fixtures of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid. The three clubs will instead make their season debuts during the second round of matches later in August.
Premier League
The English Premier League will kick off on August 21, just 33 days after the World Cup final, and conclude on May 30, 2027.
Defending champions Arsenal will open the season at home against newly promoted Coventry City, while Manchester City begin their title bid away to Bournemouth. Other standout opening-weekend fixtures include Liverpool versus Newcastle United and Chelsea against Fulham.
Ligue 1Â
France’s Ligue 1 will also return on August 21, with Marseille hosting Strasbourg in the opening fixture.
Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain will not play on the opening day and are instead scheduled to begin their campaign against Rennes on the final day of the first round.
Serie AÂ
The Italian Serie A season starts on Saturday, August 22, with defending champions Inter Milan opening their title defense against Monza at San Siro.
The campaign will end on May 29, 2027, with several clubs, including Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli, and Roma, expected to challenge for the Scudetto.
Bundesliga
Germany’s Bundesliga will be the last of Europe’s top five leagues to get underway, with the opening match scheduled for Friday, August 28.
As tradition dictates, reigning champions Bayern Munich will raise the curtain when they host Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena. The German season will conclude on May 22, 2027.
With new title races, fresh signings, and renewed rivalries on the horizon, the 2026-2027 season promises another year of high-stakes football across Europe’s elite leagues.
