Rabat – Spanish midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante, commonly known as Rodri, is set to undergo surgery for a back injury. It is unclear when he will be making a return ahead of the potential Manchester deal.

The surgery occurred at a time when Manchester City was planning for a striking 2026/27 season, featuring the best defensive midfielder in the world, who had just won the World Cup Golden Ball.

In Rodri’s absence, Manchester City needs to devise an effective midfield formation while anticipating potential squad changes before the transfer window closes. The club’s medical staff will closely monitor Rodri’s rehabilitation following his surgery as the team prepares for a demanding schedule in both domestic and European competitions.

Rodri suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in September 2024, sidelining him for almost the entire 2024-25 season. Injuries to his hamstring and groin restricted him to 33 appearances and 17 starts in the Premier League last season.

Following his outstanding performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and winning the Golden Ball, Rodri is back in Real Madrid’s plans.

According to ESPN, Real Madrid is still interested in Rodri, while Eduardo Camavinga is the midfielder the club might consider transferring. However, Real Madrid understands that the France international, who was excluded from his country’s World Cup squad, wants to remain in Madrid. Rodri’s signing could potentially encourage Camavinga to make a move.
