Rabat – Real Madrid have reportedly entered the competition to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, creating fresh uncertainty around one of the summer transfer window’s most sought-after young players.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Madrid have opened talks with Leipzig over a possible transfer for the Ivory Coast international, who has also attracted serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.

No agreement has been announced, and Diomande remains under contract with Leipzig until June 2030. The German club confirmed that contract length when signing him from Spanish side Leganés in July 2025.

Reports suggest Liverpool previously approached Leipzig with a package worth close to €100 million, while the Bundesliga club have been seeking a figure closer to €130 million.

PSG had reportedly emerged as Diomande’s preferred destination, but Real Madrid’s involvement has introduced another major contender for his signature.

Leipzig determined to keep Diomande

Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer publicly stated in June that the club intended to keep the winger for the 2026-2027 season.

“Our clear intention is for Yan Diomande to play for RB Leipzig next season,” Schäfer said, stressing that the club remained in a strong negotiating position because of the player’s long-term contract.

However, Diomande indicated during the World Cup that he expected to move, while leaving negotiations to his representatives.

The teenager’s market value has risen rapidly following an impressive first Bundesliga campaign. Official league figures credit him with 12 goals and eight assists as Leipzig secured Champions League qualification.

His direct running, speed and ability to beat defenders have made him particularly attractive to clubs looking for a winger capable of attacking from either side.

Diomande also completed more successful dribbles than any other Bundesliga player during the 2025-2026 season, underlining his reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous young one-on-one attackers.

Possible implications for Brahim Díaz

Real Madrid’s interest is reportedly connected to their search for another right-sided attacker in case Moroccan international Brahim Diaz leaves the club.

Brahim is understood to prefer remaining in Madrid, where he is still considered an invaluable squad player.

However, the pursuit of Diomande suggests the Spanish club are preparing for different possibilities before the transfer window closes.

Diomande further strengthened his reputation during the 2026 World Cup, featuring in all four of Ivory Coast’s matches as the African champions reached the round of 32.

The Elephants were eliminated following a 2-1 defeat against Norway, but Diomande was one of their most influential attacking players throughout the competition.

FIFA identified him as one of the African players who made a significant impact at the tournament.

Real Madrid’s interest has not yet developed into a confirmed transfer. Leipzig’s valuation and determination to retain the player remain major obstacles, while PSG and other European clubs continue to follow the situation.
