Rabat – Galatasaray are reportedly waiting for Real Madrid coach José Mourinho to decide Brahim Díaz’s future before making a renewed attempt to sign the Moroccan international during the summer transfer window.
Turkish reports say Galatasaray have identified Díaz as one of their leading options for the attacking midfield position, alongside Eintracht Frankfurt’s Turkish international Can Uzun.
According to Sporx, Real Madrid have indicated that they would be prepared to discuss a possible sale, prompting Galatasaray to consider an offer valued between €25 million and €30 million.
However, neither club has announced an agreement, and the negotiations remain at the reported-interest stage.
The main obstacle is understood to be Díaz’s desire to remain in the Spanish capital. The 26-year-old has reportedly informed Galatasaray that his priority is to take part in Real Madrid’s preseason preparations and convince Mourinho that he deserves a significant role during the 2026-2027 campaign.
Mourinho to assess Díaz during preseason
Mourinho’s evaluation is therefore expected to play an important role in determining whether the transfer can progress.
The Portuguese coach recently returned to Real Madrid and is preparing the team for the new season.
The club’s official provisional squad continues to list Díaz as a first-team player, with Mourinho named as head coach.
Should Mourinho decide that Díaz is part of his plans, the Moroccan is expected to reject Galatasaray’s approach and continue competing for playing time at the Santiago Bernabéu.
However, Turkish reports suggest Galatasaray would resume their efforts if Mourinho permits Real Madrid to sell the attacking midfielder. The Istanbul club would then need to convince Díaz that a move to the Turkish Süper Lig would offer him a more prominent role.
Competition for places at Real Madrid remains intense. Díaz can operate as a central attacking midfielder or on either wing, but he faces competition from several established and emerging attackers, including Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler, Rodrygo, Vinícius Júnior and Franco Mastantuono.
Real Madrid have also been linked with additional attacking reinforcements, creating further uncertainty over how Mourinho intends to structure his squad.
Díaz determined to fight for his place
Díaz joined Real Madrid from Manchester City in January 2019 before spending three seasons on loan at AC Milan. He helped the Italian club win the Serie A title during the 2021-2022 season before returning to Madrid in 2023.
Although he has not always been a regular starter, his ability to play in several attacking positions has made him a useful squad option.
Born in Málaga, Díaz represented Spain at youth level and made one appearance for the Spanish senior team before committing his international future to Morocco in 2024. He has since become an important member of the Atlas Lions.
