Rabat – Arsenal are reportedly exploring a move for Real Madrid forward Vinícius Junior if the Brazilian international fails to agree a contract extension with the Spanish club.

According to The Athletic, Vinícius is among several attacking candidates being considered by Arsenal as the club look to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad following their Premier League title success.

The interest remains at an early stage. Arsenal have not opened negotiations with Real Madrid, and there is no guarantee that their internal discussions will develop into a formal offer.

However, the possibility of signing the 26-year-old reportedly has support across Arsenal’s sporting structure.

Arsenal won the 2025–26 Premier League title, ending a 22-year wait to be crowned English champions. Their success followed three consecutive second-place finishes, but the club are now seeking further reinforcements as they prepare to defend the title and compete in the Champions League.

Contract uncertainty creates possible opportunity

Vinícius has entered the final year of his Real Madrid contract, which expires in June 2027. Negotiations over an extension have yet to produce an agreement, with reports suggesting that the two sides remain apart over the financial terms of a new deal.

Real Madrid would be reluctant to lose one of their most valuable players without receiving a transfer fee. From January 2027, Vinícius would be permitted to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Spain if he remains unsigned.

No formal offer has been made for the winger, while Vinícius has previously expressed his desire to continue at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The former Flamengo player remained one of Madrid’s leading attacking figures during the 2025–26 season. He scored more than 20 goals across all competitions for a fifth consecutive campaign, despite Real Madrid ending the season without a major trophy.

Vinícius also produced an impressive individual campaign at the 2026 World Cup, scoring four goals for Brazil before the South American side suffered a 2-1 defeat against Norway in the round of 16.

He joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018 and has since become an important part of the club’s attack, contributing to several domestic and European titles.

For now, Arsenal’s interest should be viewed as exploratory rather than an advanced transfer pursuit. Any move is likely to depend first on whether Vinícius and Real Madrid can reach an agreement over a new contract.
