Rabat – Morocco’s U16 boys’ tennis team has been crowned African champions after defeating Algeria in the final match of the African Team Championships in Polokwane, South Africa, securing a place at the upcoming World Team Championships.
The Moroccan side completed a perfect tournament, recording five consecutive victories over Kenya, Egypt, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Algeria to finish unbeaten and lift the continental trophy.
The championship-winning squad featured Reda Alaoui, Mehdi Laabi, and Sami Iraqi, coached by Mehdi Taheri and Mohamed El Ghaba.
Morocco also celebrated a strong performance in the girls’ competition, where the national team claimed the silver medal after reaching the final. The team defeated Algeria, Togo, Egypt, and South Africa before losing to Tunisia in the title match.
The girls’ squad consisted of Hind Hannaoui, Lara Faraj, and Yasmine Douib, capping off a successful tournament for Moroccan tennis with two podium finishes.
