Rabat – Morocco presented its experience in advancing digital education on Friday during the fourth Education Transformation Summit at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, highlighting the reforms aimed at modernizing public schools and expanding the use of technology in classrooms.
Speaking during a panel on “Inclusive Digital Transformations,” Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports Mohamed Saad Berrada outlined the country’s ongoing public education reform, placing particular emphasis on the “Pioneer Schools” program.
Berrada described the initiative as a cornerstone of Morocco’s education reform strategy, with digital integration based on international best practices serving as one of its main pillars.
The minister also highlighted key components of the reform, including strengthening academic support programs, implementing the Teaching at the Right Level approach, introducing regular learning assessments using a rigorous methodology, and expanding the role of the Massar information system to monitor students’ academic progress.
Berrada said Morocco is also scaling up AI-powered educational support programs designed to improve learning outcomes and reduce school dropout rates. He noted that the ministry has signed several cooperation agreements with leading national and international institutions to support the deployment of artificial intelligence in education.
According to the minister, these partnerships combine educational support, extracurricular activities, and AI-based tools to help students stay in school while ensuring the reliability of learning outcomes.
He further stressed Morocco’s commitment to providing quality education adapted to the digital age by integrating digital technologies and artificial intelligence into both teaching methods and student support systems. Berrada added that the country’s main challenge is to expand these reforms nationwide while maintaining high educational standards.
On the sidelines of the summit, Berrada met with Italian Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara to discuss their countries’ respective education reforms, the challenges posed by digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the Moroccan and Italian education systems.
The meeting brought together education ministers and senior officials from several countries as part of international efforts to assess progress made since the United Nations’ 2022 Transforming Education Summit.
